Red Mage Maat Fight |
|
I made this guide in hopes of helping any other red mages in ffxi that may have suffered frustration from fighting Maat. If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to e-mail me at info@summitviewgraphics.com. Feel free as well to look me up, my character's name is Senkimekia and I am located on the Lakshmi server. I belong to the FantasyPearl linkshell, feel free to check out our website at www.fantasypearl.net. I fought Maat a total of 5 times, I like to say officially 4 times because the first time I went in totally unprepared just to check things out, fully preparing to die (as I did, and quickly!) The next two times I went in prepared and did the sleep/nuke method. The first (official) time I got Maat down to about 1/2 - 1/3 HP before I finally died, and the second time I hate to say I fared even worse.. I was preparing to go in for the 3rd time when a red mage at the scene asked me if I was fighting Maat. When I replied yes, he asked if I was planning on sleeping Maat,
|
to which I responded "of course"... He then asked if I would like to hear about a better way - he had fought Maat 10+ times and died but when he switched tactics he was able to beat Maat - not only beat him but break the time record to boot! (1min 44sec) Needless to say I was ready to hear of a better way, so he outlined the way he fought Maat... He told me to run in and use food, (don't waste the gil on crimson jelly he added), buff, diaga + dispel Maat, Aero him + then chainspell, rebuff, and spam aeros until Maat was dead... I was a little skeptical of course (and I was thinking diaga?? <huh?!>, but I figured what the hell, I'd give it a try. Instead of waiting and preparing properly, I furiously typed away making new macros before windsday was over (very little time!) and went in and tried it out. ( Let me just say, I don't recommend that ;P ) I went in and died as a result of messing up a couple macros (remember to spell it ELIXIR and not ELIXER!!!)... But, I had damaged the hell out of Maat regardless and KNEW that it would work out the next time! I died happy :) I spent a little more time preparing my macros for the 4th fight, testing out timing on mobs until I had shaved my /wait times to the correct times, and tested various equipment setups to see which caused the most damage. The 4th time was a charm, I finished the fight in 2min 13sec, and completely ecstatic and relieved!

So a big thank you to Duryndu from Lakshmi server, if you had not grabbed me before I ran in I would probably be getting my rdm test for the umpteenth time :) I told you I'd be telling every Red Mage about this (but to take the time to write out a guide???? sick! lol)! Thank you also to Duryndu's wife who found this method SOMEWHERE on the internet, I have yet to find it so hence my own guide to refer people to.... I don't have any way to compare, but I have heard that the Maat fight for Red Mages is the hardest, all that I can say is that with this method it was downright EZ! Make sure your enfeeb and elemental magic skills are capped, and I recommend fighting on Windsday... |

Macro 2 - Buff UpThis was my buffing macro, you only need blink and stoneskin, I did not waste time or MP on phalanx. The last part of the macro you can swap your first intelligence item for whatever MP item you were wearing. |
buff/ma "Stoneskin" <me> |
Macro 3 - Diaga and piss him offOk, here is where the fun starts - now you are attacking him, and...well, you are going to piss him off :) Once you start this macro just keep fast with timing on the rest and you'll have it no problem. Don't run away, he will not asurian fist you because the fight will be over too quick. Diaga is the first spell, it will eat through his blink so you don't waste any spells. Dispel will drop his other buff, hopefully he will only have the 2 up by this time. |
diaga/ma "Diaga" <bt> |
Macro 4 - Attack!!!Pretty self explanatory, you're going to use this macro to shoot off your first aero and go into high nuking mode with chainspell :) At this point if there is any other mp/int equips you have, you can do so here, I didn't so the last two macro commands were blank for me... |
attk/ma "Aero III" <bt> |
Macro 5 - Rebuff TimeAt this point Maat has hit you a couple times, and you want to rebuff so you stay alive!!! I was overly cautious with the /wait times because I didn't have time to blow my chainspell to test timing before my fight, so you may want to play with it - you could probably shave off more time.... |
rebuff/ma "blink" <me> |
Macro 6 - Aero IIIThis is the button you want to press in rapid succession as if your life depended on it (it does!), stopping only to use your elixir or convert macros - and quite possibly the rebuff macro as well. You want to beat Maat off quickly before chainspell wears, or you're really going to be hurting... I was going to stack a couple Aeros in the one macro but decided against it so I'd have total control over when I could use my Elixirs and convert. |
aero/ma "Aero III" <bt> |
Macro 7 - Ready for some MP/HPThis one is self explanatory.. do you need a vile elixir +1? I have to say I totally did, those damn tarus and their MP pools might get away with it, but if not for the Vile Elixir +1 I would have been dead... Doing the math, I just would not have had enough MP to pull it off w/out this. |
MP1/item "Vile Elixir +1" <me> |
Macro 8 - Backup MP/HPI had this macro just in case, and, ummm, actually tried to use it - (make sure you spell Elixir right!!! /sigh) To be honest, I ended the fight QUITE low on mp and hp, this elixir would have been nice if the macro had worked, but I made do without it and saved some money. Bring it though, just in case! |
MP2/item "Vile Elixir" <me> |
Macro 9 - ConvertSelf explanatory .... Did I use it??? yep :) Dury said he didn't need to use convert, and that was a gutsy move on my part, but no guts no glory... |
