On July 5 2002, in the early morning hours, three men in a 15ft power boat hit a large channel maker buoy in the river just north of the boat dock. The crash ejected all three victims into the water and caused the vessel to become submerged.
Germantown and Livingston Fire Rescue Boats were called as well as the Sheriff’s patrol boat. Germantown's B70 and it’s crew found the first victim standing on top of the buoy their boat had hit. The victim stated he was alone and was transported back to shore. After interviewing the subject it was believed there were more victims in still in the water. Both rescue boat ventured back into the darkness and a second victim treading water was found near the partially submerged vessel approximately a mile upriver. Livingston’s rescue boat B83 discovered the third victim at the entrance of the Ro-Jan creek.
The driver of the boat suffered only a broken hand. It was estimated the three men were in the water for over a hour.
